Jesse slipped out from the warmth of the bed with great reluctance. It was all she
could do to leave the comfort of lying next to the still sleeping Terri. Wrapped in a
thick terrycloth robe she made her way to the kitchen and grabbed the bottle of
Tylenol strategically placed on the sink by the faucet. She poured out four pills and
took them all at once, chasing them down with a drink of water. That done; she turned
her attention to the task of preparing coffee.

Looking at her watch she calculated the time she had before going to the office. It was
the first official day and she did not want to be late. She looked in the bedroom and
the warm bed beckoned to her to crawl back within its coziness. With a sigh she
turned to the bathroom and started the shower, she knew that if she succumbed to the
temptation of crawling back beneath the covers she would not be on time for work.

Jesse was showered, dressed and sitting on the deck when the semi-conscious Terri
made her way outside. Dressed in sweatpants and a sweatshirt that was inside out
she slumped down beside Jesse. Without a word, Jesse handed her a mug of coffee.
No words were necessary. Talking was not required until after the second cup of
coffee had been consumed. At that point, one-word sentences could be formed.

"Mornin" Terri finally mumbled after the second cup of Java jolted her voice box.
"Good Morning Babe" Jesse looked up from the paperwork she had been reading.
"Time?" Terri yawned.

“About 6:45" Jesse said as she shuffled the paperwork back in order and put them
back into the canvas briefcase on the table. She picked up her mug of coffee and
took the last sip of the brew.

“As soon as Nell gets out, we are going to head for the office. Ya mind if I take the
Mule?" Jesse asked.

"No." mumbled Terri

"Thanks. Keys to the purple cart are hung up by the door. Guess we will see you and
Kim later this morning." Jesse said as she picked up her mug and went inside the
camper. She rinsed the cup and left it in the sink. Picked up the keys to the UV and
rejoined Terri on the deck. She kissed the tousled head of her partner, picked up her
briefcase and headed down to the parking area by the sheds.

“There is some cereal in the cupboard and bagels in the fridge" she called over her
shoulder.

"Kay" Terri acknowledged in her husky voice.

Jesse had climbed in the UV when Nell appeared from her trailer. With travel mug in
hand, Nell slipped in the UV and then waved up to Terri on the deck. Terri saluted her
by raising her mug and smiled as they drove away. It was still a mystery to her how
Jesse could wake up, shower and dress without the aid of at least a pot of coffee.
Terri needed a minimum of an hour to regain a hold on the conscious world. Two
hours was better if any thought processes beyond yawning were required.

After the fourth cup of industrial strength Java had infused her system, Terri went
about the business of starting her day. After the infamous 6-minute shower she
dressed in  a clean pair of cargo shorts and denim shirt she headed back out to the
deck to put on her work boots. She was just about to put on the right boot when she
spied the folded piece of paper stuck down inside it. With a furrowed brow, she
opened the note and smiled at the familiar handwriting.

Love ya babe,
Your sole-mate

Terri shook her head and grinned as she re-folded the note and stuck it in her front
shirt pocket. Once properly shod, she grabbed her jacket and gear bag with a full
thermos of black liquid consciousness then headed for the golf cart. It was time to go
to work. Labinky style...............
