Petey was headed into the bathroom at the same moment that Dory was storming her
way out. Petey grabbed the smaller woman as she careened off her and almost fell
into a nearby table full of beer bottles. Dory was fuming as she slapped Petey’s
helping hands away.

“What’s your problem?" Petey asked defensively. “I’m trying to help."

“I don't need your help," Dory snapped as she tried to gain control of her feet.

“Fine!"  Petey shrugged as she let go and Dory skittered backward upsetting the table
and causing the beer bottles to go flying. Which, of course, caused the group of
women that were sitting at the table, to take exception to the unwelcome intrusion.
Dory had not quite hit the floor, somehow she managed to keep her footing, but found
herself surrounded by some pissed off dykes.

“What the fuck is your problem, bitch!" the tall girl with the close cropped blond hair
demanded.

“Look I'm sorry I interrupted your little dyko-drama," Dory spat with contempt.

“Fuck you, cunt" the blond sneered as she got in Dory's face.

Rachel was sitting at the table chatting with Nell, Terri and Jesse. She had turned
when she heard the bottles hit the floor. Seeing Dory surrounded by the women
brought her to her feet in a hurry, but Terri had already shot out of her chair and
headed in the midst of the commotion. Nell was on a radio and calling security. Petey
stepped in front of Dory and held up her hands in a sign of peace. The women backed
off, mostly out of respect for Petey and when Terri joined her the tempers that had
flared up were now growing a little more tepid.

“Take it easy gals" Terri interjected good-naturedly as she nodded toward Dory. "How
bout she buys you a round on her. No harm, no foul."

“Sure Terri, but this bitch needs to be kept on short leash" the leader of the group
advised.

“You, callin' me a bitch, you steroid redneck," Dory retorted as she tried to pry her way
between Petey and Terri.

Petey grabbed Dory and strong-armed her roughly away from the group. A couple of
waitresses began cleaning up the bottles and quickly righted the table and replaced all
the drinks.

“Do you want your ass kicked tonight?" Petey asked Dory as she guided her back
toward the bar.

“Get off me" Dory demanded.

“I should have let them have at you, maybe then you would have learned a little
respect." Petey pushed Dory down hard on an empty bar stool. “Do you think maybe
you can stay out of trouble here for a few minutes?" Petey said as she beckoned the
bartender over.  Petey pointed her finger at Dory and motioned the cut off sign to the
bartender who nodded her agreement.

Rachel was livid when she reached the bar where Dory was sulking. The floor show
was over and everyone was back to listening to Lindy onstage. The veteran that the
singer was to the bar scene, Lindy never missed a beat as she watched the fray
unfold before her. She motioned to Kim in the control room to take it up a notch and
she sang a loud and favorite bar song. That got everyone's attention back to where it
belonged.

“What do you think you are doing?" Rachel implored her partner.

“I was…. I went....... to..... the....the.... bathroom........." Dory started to say.

“Hey, Terri!" a woman shouted from the bathroom door, "You got a toilet overflowing!
Looks like somebody dumped a roll of toilet paper down it!"

Lindy heard the exchange and shot Dory a knowing look; with a very satisfied smirk on
her face, she played the intro to her next song. Dory flushed red as she looked past
Rachel and nodded ever so slightly toward the stage. Rachel was standing in front of
her, but slightly to the left, so Dory could clearly see the stage. Dory looked back at
Rachel and readied for what was going to be a repeated tirade that she almost knew
from heart. She tried her best to look properly contrite and even managed to squeeze
a slight tear that slid down her face.

Rachel started to say something but stopped. “Why do you do these things?" she
asked as she wiped the tear away.

“I was waiting for you to come back," Dory all but pouted. “I just drank a little too
much; I didn't have much else to do.... without you." Dory laid the guilt on thick. Rachel
stopped immediately because she knew that partially she may have contributed to the
events by not being here. She looked down at the bar floor and gathered her next
words carefully.

“It’s....been a... long evening. Let's head back to the camper and call it a night." Rachel
smiled down at her younger partner.

Dory had to literally force herself not to smile in triumph. She looked up meekly at
Rachel and nodded in agreement. Rachel held her hand out for the keys to the golf
cart. Dory pulled them from her jeans pocket and then looked beyond Rachel at Petey
and smiled a tight "Fuck you" smile as she slid off the bar stool and grabbed Rachel's
hand as she headed to the door.
