Petey joined Nell, Terri and Jesse at the table with a cold bottle of beer which she gratefully took a long pull on as she settled in for the rest of Lindy's show. Lindy was in great form tonight. She had the crowd dancing and singing and the drinks were flowing. It would be a good Saturday night for the Lodge. Petey had been trained very well by Terri and watched the crowd carefully for potential trouble brewing. She could see a couple at secluded table making out like they were in their own bedroom instead of a bar. While across the room another couple were having a domestically drink induced dispute. Terri had already started over toward the table and Petey followed behind and had already signaled for the bouncer to back them up when she caught the unmistakable shiny flash of a knife being wielded by a very drunk local redneck as he stumbled behind Terri. His bloodshot eyes narrowed as he sneered at Petey. “Justa lil protection gainst yer ball twistin trick." He snickered as he waved the hunting knife in front of Petey. "Not so brave now are ya. You bitch dykes are all the same....you got no balls, no prick....just a tongue and sum fingers....you just be jealous cause you just ain't got no equipment. You never can be like a man.....a real man....just fuckin wannabes.....but I bet I can make you bleed real good...." he feinted toward Petey with the knife. Petey didn't panic, she could see Terri behind the drunk and she timed her defense against the knife thrust as she side-stepped the jab and grabbed the drunks knife hand with both her hands and used her body weight to twist the hand in the opposite direction until she hear the distinctive snap of the ulna bone as it gave against the torsion force she created. The knife clattered to the floor and Terri quickly picked it up as the drunk screamed in pain while he cradled his injured arm. Barb grabbed the hapless drunk by the back of his flannel shirt and thumbed the radio on for Security to call the local police and also to send an ambulance to the Lodge. Terri handed the eight inch hunting knife over to Petey. “Another souvenir for your collection kiddo." “Makes that metal detector system a little more realistic" Petey handed the knife over to Barb to give to police when they arrived. “We usually don't have any trouble with the sisters; it's the outsiders that keep trying to be violent." Petey sighed as she looked over the crowd that was partying away the Saturday night. It would soon be last call and the Lodge would close its doors, but the partying would continue at the campers until the wee hours of the morning. Lindy was wrapping up her set, leaving on a high note. The set had been very good. The crowd clapped as the lights dimmed and called for encore. Lindy started to unstrap her guitar, but stopped and stepped up to the mic as one spotlight lit the stage. She strummed softly and began in that low husky voice a new song she had not performed before. It was a different tone to the music that had the place jumping all night. A real departure from her usual musical style. You could see the couples holding hands and leaning in close as the place was strangely quiet; even the behind the bar noise was hushed as Lindy sang of longing, yearning and looking for substance in a world of mirrors. Petey and Terri made their way back to the table and Terri pressed her finger against the lips of Jesse as she tried to question the skirmish she observed earlier. Jesse just grabbed her hand, grateful that whatever foray occurred both Terri and Petey were in one piece and seemed nonchalant about the ruckus. Terri's brown eyes said it all, no worries. Jesse leaned her head on her partner's shoulder, the emotional cost of the night plus the consumption of alcohol had finally taken its toll. Terri's arm slipped comfortably around Jesse's shoulders and for now, the connection, the thread was strong as steel. Jesse was anchored again. Lindy strumming slowed and the song ended in a hushed and anguished whisper. Petey was surprised, in all the sets that Lindy had been performing here, this was a first. A real glimpse of the soul beneath the swagger and superficial veneer that the singer normally projected. The crowd was affected. The spot light slowly dimmed until the last word echoed from the darkened stage. The sisters clapped loudly and begged for more, but the stage remained dark. When the house lights came back on, Lindy's guitar was in its cradle but the singer was no where to be seen. She had slipped out the side door and paused to light up a cigarette. She only smoked after the last song. Sort of a reward for the performance. She could hear crowd clapping and calling for more. She smiled in the darkness, always leave em wanting more. Lindy headed toward the camper that would be her home for the season, it had been a long night. What had started out as a two hour set had actually turned into a four hour set, and she smiled as she mentally calculated her new rate that she would gladly submit to Nell on Monday morning. Yeah, it was a good night, just have one more little itch to scratch. She turned down the road that led to her camper and was approached shyly by a very young girl. She was a cutie, short, dark hair and she smiled seductively to Lindy who smiled in return as she slipped her arm around the girl's shoulder. " You were awesome tonight," the younger woman gushed unabashedly. " Oh little one, if you think that was awesome, then just wait......" Lindy smiled down as she led the young girl to her camper.
