Dory woke up when she heard a motor running outside the trailer. Groggy with sleep, she stumbled from the bed to the kitchen of the camper. Her eyes had not yet adjusted to the morning light and she stubbed her big toe on the edge of tip out seam. "Sonofabitchy" she gasped as she limped to the couch. She rubbed the injured digit until the pain subsided. Tentatively she stood up, slipped on a pair of shoes and half hopped over to the kitchen window and saw a woman walk across the lot. Dory flung open the camper door. "Hey" she yelled. "What the hell do you think you are doing?” Terri stopped and turned to the angry woman. Her smile was tight and forced. "Excuse me?" she said. "I said: What the hell do you think you are doing" Dory repeated slowly and sarcastically. "Don't you people around here understand English?” Terri cocked her head and stared at the disheveled figure at the camper door. Silently she counted to ten. Then, as merely a precautionary measure, she counted again. With the most gracious smile she could muster she simply replied, "English is understood perfectly, its assholeism that we have trouble translating". Dory 's already angry countenance grew livid. "I am going to report you to the owners. They should throw you out!” "By all means, report me. My name is Terri, not with a 'y', but with an 'i'. “ It was then that Petey and Rachel pulled in on the Mule. Rachel could tell that Dory was upset about something from her body language. It was the hands on the hips that indicated she was pissed. "Damny" she thought to herself "It was such a pleasant morning.” "I want this woman reported to the owners!" Dory yelled at Petey and Rachel. "She is trespassing on our lot and disturbing my peace.” Terri looked over at the two women seated in the Mule and shrugged her shoulders at the accusations. Petey grinned. "You want me to report this woman to the owners" she asked Dory. "Yes! I want her thrown out of the park." Dory demanded. Petey picked up her walkie talkie and thumbed it on. "Security, this is Petey. I'm down at lot 202. We have a code 2. I repeat. We have a code 2." "Be right there" the radio squawked. Within minutes,a pair of yellow UV’s were pulling up beside the Mule. Two women and two men dressed in dark blue uniforms approached the trailer. "What seems to be the problem here?" asked a tall young man with a military-style crew cut and mirrored sunglasses. Before Terri or Petey could say a word, Dory stomped down out of the trailer and pointed to Terri "I want to report her. I want her thrown out of the park for trespassing and for being rude and for... for... for...for disturbing my peace." she stammered. Rachel's uneasiness grew at the situation. She started out of the cart when, Petey put a hand out to stop her. "Let her handle it, Rachel" Petey advised. “I was sound asleep and this...this ....person pulled up on that thing and woke me up." Dory ranted as she pointed at Terri. "Let me get this straight. You want this woman thrown out of the park for waking you up" The guard with the name Sean stenciled over his left breast pocket questioned Dory. "Yes! If you have a problem with that call the owners. Call them right now!" Dory insisted. The guards nodded in unison. Sean walked over to the security UV and picked up a two-way radio. It was then that the walkie talkie clipped to Terri's belt came alive. “This is Security. We have a code 2 at lot 202. Requesting Owner Terri respond.” Dory's mouth nearly dropped to the ground when Terri unclipped her radio from her belt and thumbed it on. "Terri here" she spoke. Dory turned toward Rachel with a look that implored her to intervene. To rescue her from the situation. To do something for her to save face. But Rachel just sat there in the UV beside that blonde. She did not make a move or say a word. Dory turned back to face the security guards and Terri. A tightlipped Terri smiled. "I understand you have a problem that requires an owner's attention.” "I...I...thought you were an intruder...a...trespasser....I...I ....didn't know" she stammered lamely. "Why didn't you tell me who ....who you were?” "You never gave me a chance." Terri pointed out. "Look....I...I...am sorry. I was asleep and...that thing woke me up...and...and...I...” Dory tried to excuse herself. "Maybe you should go back to bed and start all over again." Terri suggested as she nodded her head toward the trailer. Dory looked around at the group. The security guards all had smug smiles on their faces, Petey was clearly enjoying her discomfort. Rachel had a blank look on her face, and for the first time in their relationship, Dory could not tell what she was thinking. Nor could she understand why Rachel had not intervened in her behalf. It was all she could do to muster what little dignity she had and step back into the safety of the camper. Click On The River To Continue To Chapter 14 © Labinky Park 2008 Labinky Enterprises 2008 |
