Taylor had finished up her “mini” shift and headed out of the Lodge kitchen into the bright
afternoon sun. She pulled her cell phone out her jeans pocket and punched on Petey’s
number and was surprised to find that it went direct to voice mail. She left a quick message
and headed toward her golf cart that was parked at the back of the Lodge.
It was a wonderful spring afternoon and she wanted to cruise the park. Somewhere she
thought that she would run into Petey. It was not like Petey to leave Taylor left to hang when
they had made plans to meet.

Taylor drove down the winding black-topped roads toward the Park office. Just as she turned
down a steep hill when a fast moving Jeep nearly knocked her golf cart off the road. Tires
skidded, dust and gravel blew a cloud as Taylor turned the cart safely into a grassy banked
area. She was out of the vehicle like a shot and headed to the driver of the Jeep.

Lindy pulled her shaded down her nose and looked out at the very disheveled Taylor who was
spit-fire mad and bore down on her like a fury.

“Who in the fuck do you think you are?” Taylor demanded as she brushed the dust and grit
that Lindy’s tires had thrown on her as the Jeep had skidded past her.

“Someone who likes to fuck…..” Lindy smiled nonplussed at Taylor’s anger.

That stopped Taylor in her tracks. But with her hands on her hips she was not about to let
Lindy off the hook so easily. She eyed the singer with narrowed eyes and took in everything,
from Lindy’s tousled unruly hair to her lean and lanky frame. She leaned forward and smiled
her own devastating smile.

“So do I….” Taylor all but purred. “But you….are not my type!”

“Ahh…..I see….you go more for tall leggy blonde's with a boy’s name!” Lindy shot back
quickly.

“Jealous?” Taylor baited.

“Maybe!” Lindy took the hook and jutted her chin out defiantly.

“You want to get my attention….don’t do it by pushing me off the road!” Taylor flipped Lindy
the bird and sauntered back to her cart; leaving Lindy to lust after her departing ass.

“How does one get your attention then?” Lindy called out as Taylor held up her hand and
started the golf cart and headed back down the road.

“Damn!” Lindy muttered as she put the Jeep in gear and watched Taylor in her rear view
mirror.

“Damn!” Taylor fumed as she tried to put as much distance as she could between her and
Lindy.

An ER Tech and nurse undressed Jesse and put her in a skimpy hospital gown. Shirt, jeans,
socks and sneakers went into a plastic bag with a sticker bearing Jesse’s name, birth date;
attending physician and a computer generated bar code. The nurse went out the sliding glass
door and left the Tech to watch and monitor Jesse. But there wasn’t much to monitor.

Jesse sat on the gurney with her arms wrapped around her knees and her chin tucked on top.
Jesse just waited and stared. She never said a word, she followed all the commands given
her but she never responded to verbally to a word that was said to her. She could hear them.
She could hear their remarks. She heard the Tech telling the nurse about her recent hookup
with a Student Male Nurse in the blanket warming room. She heard the nurse chuckle at the
details about the Tech almost getting her ass burned by the heater element when things had
gotten hot. The Tech chatted away; all while undressing Jesse like a living doll.

“So…..how are you?” The Tech finally asked Jesse after the nurse left the room.

But Jesse did not acknowledge the question. She was safely tucked away inside her herself
waiting for the right moment to connect back to the present….not yet….not now…

The Therapist led the State Trooper to the busy waiting room of the ER. And in the corner
away from the milling people who were waiting for treatment; she could see Terri and two
other women flanking her on either side. This was not something that she had expected. She
knew that Terri would be here and probably in rare form; but these other two women were
strangers to her and she had to quickly adapt to the new elements.

“What can I do for you….ladies?” Lynn literally dripped honey from her lips as she tried to
make a good impression on the State Trooper.

“You know damn well why we are here!” Terri stood defiantly in front of the Therapist. “Jess
was in no danger…and would not hurt a fuckin’ fly!” Terri all but spat at the woman before her.

“I am sorry…I can not discuss my patient’s condition with any of you….privacy issues of
course….. and you are not related to her." The Therapist said almost snidely.

“We’re her cousins!” all three women said in unison.

“Then in the State of West Virginia that more than qualifies them as family.” The State
Trooper said to the therapist as he looked at all three women... and winked.

“There are still the confidentiality issues…” The therapist said pointedly. “Now if you will
excuse me I have my patient to attend to.” The therapist tried to curtail the confrontation. But
Terri was not going to let it go that easily.

“When are you going to release her?” Terri asked before the Therapist could turn away. But it
was the State Trooper who answered the question.

“Jesse
Martin can only be held for a 24 involuntary observation. Once she is seen by the
attending Psychiatrist and found to be coherent and not a threat to herself or others she will
be released. Since you all are
family….you can wait in the Behavioral Health waiting area on
the Third floor or you can go home and come back tomorrow.”  The Trooper informed Terri,
Nell and Petey much to the discomfort of the Therapist standing beside him.

It was Petey who intervened in what was fast becoming a volatile situation. She was standing
a little behind Terri on her right hand side. While they had been waiting for the Therapist to
show up, Petey had gone to the snack bar and gotten coffee for Nell and Terri and a big 32
oz Orange Soda for herself. When the therapist and Trooper had approached the three
women, Petey very inconspicuously took the lid off her Styrofoam container and flipped the lid
into a trash can that was near her.  She had been taking careful sips from the cup while
watching the whole scene between the Therapist and Terri play out. Before the Therapist
could turn to walk away Petey performed the most amazing pratfall of her life, a half step in
past Terri and a pretend trip and the cup of Orange Soda flew out of her hand; dousing the
Therapist and her beige colored silk Armani pant suit in it’s icy stickiness.

“Did you see that!” the Therapist fumed to the officer. “She attacked me….what are you
going to do about it?” She sputtered in anger.

The Trooper bent down and picked up the empty container. “I have apprehended the
perpetrator….and properly restrained the perpetrator…” He almost snickered as he
deposited the cup in the trash can. He then pulled out his business card and gave it to Nell
who was standing closest to him. “If you ladies need anything….just call this number… it is
my direct cell phone.” He touched the brim of his hat and turned and walked away from the
four women.

“Darlin...” Nell smiled a knife cold smile. “Armani and Orange Soda….a real fashion disaster!”

The Therapist turned without speaking another word to the women and left a trail of Orange
Soda in her wake. Terri turned to Petey as soon as the woman slipped back through the
secured double doors beyond the triage area and hugged her friend hard.

“You are my hero! I was just gonna slap the shit outta her….” Terri confessed.

“Ahh…I kinda sense that….sometimes and innocuous action is better than an angry reaction!”
Petey shrugged as she hugged Terri back.

“I’m not leaving….” Terri said to her companions. “I am staying until they release Jesse in the
morning. I know Jesse….she will walk out that door!” Terri nodded her head in utter
confidence. “Why don’t you two head back to the Park….” Terri encouraged Petey and Nell.

“What… and leave to you scope out all the pretty nurses….?” Petey smiled. “Nice try Terri…I
will take Nell back and then…I will be back to wait with you…I may need some medical
attention….” Petey laughed easily as she caught the eye of a passing Nurse. The nurse may
have been straight as an arrow but even she gave Petey an admiring look. Petey just smiled
back that winsome smile of hers and the nurse blushed as she averted her eyes.

“Well….I can see that this is gonna be a long…long night!” Nell rolled her eyes as she hugged
Terri and whispered in her ear. “I am sending Jesse good Karma…and holding her tight in my
heart!”

“Me too….” Terri said with her voice choked with emotion. “Me too…”
