Outside the glass enclosed cubicle the Therapist observed Jesse without her
knowledge. A quick hot shower had taken care of the cold soda bath Lynn had
received and she was now dressed in a set of hospital scrubs. The perfect coiffed
persona was now toned down.Gone was her costume and she stood silently outside
the cubicle and looked in at her patient. In quick order she noted Jesse’s blank affect,
posture, color and steady breathing pattern.  Even from this position the Therapist
could see that Jesse had shut down…..for now.

The Therapist expected some reaction when she stepped through the glass enclosure.
But Jesse remained in her stoic position on the gurney.  The Tech nodded and
jumped up and handed Lynn Jesse’s chart with all the observations made since
admission. There was nothing striking on the vitals that were documented and Jesse’s
present behavior reflected what the Therapist saw in the chart.

“Give me a few minutes with my client…..” Lynn dismissed the Tech with a wave of
her hand.

“Sure….if you need anything….just hit the call button…” The Tech eagerly took
advantage of a break from her observational duty.

“Jesse….” The Therapist put her hand on Jesse’s shoulder in an effort to make
physical contact and break through. But Jesse never moved; she did not even flinch.
She did not acknowledge the touch or the sound of the Therapist’s voice.

“Jesse….It’s Lynn….you’re in the Emergency Room and I am going to take care of
you….” The Therapist said in her smooth professional voice. She touched the side of
Jesse’s face in an almost gentle caress. The touch did nothing to change Jesse’s
demeanor. The Therapist stood in front of Jesse and looked deep in her blue eyes but
Jesse’s eyes did not register the image of the woman in front of her. Jessie was
safe….for now.

*******************************************************************************************

The drive back from the ER was quiet. Petey drove the narrow roads with ease. Nell
had tried to call Kim from the ER and Petey had tried to call Taylor; but the cell
service in this area was, at best, sporadic. It was no surprise to either woman that
their calls did not go through. The drive back to the Park was just as much a blur as
the ride to ER. To see the Labinky Park sign was both welcoming and empty at the
same time. They had left with the expectation of bringing Jesse back. But that didn’t
happen.

“I guess I owe you a soda…”Nell sighed as Petey pulled up to the Security Shack.
The Guard on duty; even though she knew both Petey and Nell personally; checked
each of their ID’s; as per protocol and waved the car through.

“Orange really  is not my drink of choice….but it does brighten up a rather beige
personality…..” Petey grinned.

“Well gal….I owe you one….and when the dust settles on this…I am gonna buy you a
round at the Lodge.” Nell said as she got out of the car and headed toward the Lodge.
“Right now…I’m gonna get a hold of Kim and bring her up to speed. Then it will be
rumor control….which by now….will be like telling the gals… no kissin or lickin….” Nell’
s drawl trailed as she caught sight of Taylor bearing down on them in a dust-covered
golf cart!

“Just the woman I want to see…” Petey whooped as Taylor pulled her cart up beside
the car.

“Where have you been?” Taylor grimaced as she got out of the cart and headed
toward Petey.

“Long story….and I have some interesting plans for this evening….I’ll explain in the
car.”

“I’m game!” Taylor stuffed her keys in her jeans and took Nell’s place in the passenger
seat of the car. Again, Petey was headed back to the Emergency Room.

“Tay….” Petey began. “It’s been an experience…” And she quickly relayed the
morning’s events for Taylor.

“Whoa!” Taylor breathed as Petey finished the recounting of the events. “I knew that
Jesse had been in therapy since the attack in the bar….what that was about a year
ago now wasn’t it?” Taylor asked Petey.

“Yeah…..West Virginia Justice for you... that’s for sure. She is attacked by red-necks
in a bar who are harassing her for being gay….she ends up in the court system
assigned for counseling due to “Anger Management Issues”! It was bad enough that
she was beaten up….then she was the one charged in court case for damages in the
bar.  She completed all the requirements of her probation….including meeting with this
witch for the last year and now….she is hauled in as a threat to herself or other’s! I
was with her, we were all just sitting in the office and laughing and talking! This
Therapist is a real piece of work Tay! She is using her position to keep Jesse in
therapy. I think Terri is ready to take her out….which is why we are heading back. We
are going to do…some snooping!”

“Petey...are we going…undercover?” Taylor looked at Petey with complete admiration.

“We are on a mission Tay….we are going to get the dirt on one Ms. Lynn Knight! This
lady is playing fast and loose with rules she is creating on the fly. Now we are going to
turn the tables on her….and we’re going to find out….just what makes this chick….
tick!” Petey said with grim determination.
