Kim nudged the volume control on the sound mixer in front of her and
smiled when the heavy tavern tables began to vibrate. "Yepper, that'll get the
party started" she laughed. She got a thumb’s up sign from the beer delivery guy
who trundled past her to the bar with his dolly in tow. Just for kicks, she
tweaked it up a little more and watched the beer guy unload to the beat of K.D.
Lang's "Tall In The Saddle".

The sound system check was just one of the things on her list. Tonight
was the first blowout of the season. Everything had to be just right. The lights,
the music, the booze. The wait staff that they had hired would be arriving in
about two hours and Kim wanted to be done with the mic checks. She strapped
on her Ovation and headed for the stage. The only way to truly test the mic for
feedback was to play. She adjusted the mic stand and strummed softly for a few
minutes. Satisfied that the reverb and feedback were in line, she picked up the
beat and let go with a hard rendition of "Steamroller".

The applause caught her off guard. Kim shielded her eyes from the
spotlight and tried to look beyond the darken lounge. She could just make out a
figure in the shadows.

"Ok...ok...who goes there?" Kim called out.

“Just me..." a sexy throaty laugh teased.

Kim pushed up her black hat and propped her arms on the Ovation. "Now
that laugh is familiar." she mused.

“Familiar huh?" the voice moved closer to the stage. Kim could hear the
footsteps approach and the scrape of a chair being moved out of the way.
“How quickly they forget" the voice lamented.

“Oh Judas Priest!" Kim exclaimed. “Lindy!”

“Damn Gurl. Sure did take ya long enough!" Lindy laughed as she emerged
from the edge of the spotlight and jumped onto the stage. She grabbed a hold of
Kim, guitar and all and gave her a bear hug.

“Does the rest of the gang know you are here?" Kim asked as she untangled
herself from her guitar strap.

“Shit Kim, you know that no can leave a fart in this place without you guys
knowing who let wind and what that person ate at their last meal." Lindy
cracked.

“I figure that the rest of the ragtag team will be showing up here in a matter of
minutes." She raised her eyebrows in a knowing look. "But we have time for a
quickie.”

Kim held the leather-clad woman at arm's length and smiled at the
invitation. The temptation was brief and before she could say anything the lights
snapped on in the lounge and she blinked as her eyes adjusted to the
brightness. Nell walked up to the stage, taking in the scene before her with a
measured look.

“Am I interrupting something?" Nell's warm drawl dripped sweetly.

"Nah, we already did the nasty Nellie” Lindy teased darkly.

Nell pasted a hard smile on her face and gave the woman on stage with
Kim a long, shrewd look. Lindy's hair was little longer and the red highlights
were a tad more faded. There were a few more lines around those full red lips
and a few less pounds on her hips. The black leather pants that she had on fit
like a glove. All in all, Lindy looked good. She was the bad girl rebel. Her cause,
whatever caught her fancy. But she had one helluva set of pipes and could play
the guitar like no other. Her one downfall, no discipline or patience with paying
her dues in her career choice.

"So, are you ready for the party tonight?" Kim asked innocently, breaking
the uncomfortable silence.

“Kim, you know I am always ready to party" Lindy nodded her head.

“Are you ready to play, or to party?" Nell clarified for the three of them.

“Nell, Nell, Nell," Lindy clucked. “Rest assured, I will play first and then party. “
Lindy guaranteed. "Ya know Nell; you need to lighten up a little. You be much
too tense gurlfriend!”

“You don't have to worry bout Nell being tense, I keep her plenty loose. Don't I
baby?" Kim hugged Nell closer.

Nell smiled tightly and nodded in agreement. “I believe that Lindy is
mistaking tenseness with responsibility Kim, and we all know that she is only
responsible for herself. Isn't that right, Lindy?" Nell retorted icily.

Lindy just merely smiled at the dig. She knew that Nell did not think much
of her, and she really didn't give a damn. Don't give a fuck, was her motto. Or
was it fuck everyone?
