The ride back to the park was uneventful. Jesse had closed her eyes and had almost dozed off in Terri’s protective embrace. They were all exhausted. Taylor had yawned which triggered an almost unison yawn by everyone in the car. Petey laughed and shook her head. “I don’t know bout the rest of you…..but I think that I am getting too old to pull an all-niter!” “Speak for yourself gurl! I’m just catchin my second wind. That hospital is just full of unfulfilled lesbians. Damn you couldn’t take a step without tripping over a woman that needed to come out….one way or the other!” Taylor quipped. Terri laughed from the back seat. “If Louise and Della knew what you were up to gurl they would have my ass in a sling!” “I am just carrying on the legacy…most gurls are straight….until they ain’t….which is right after I kiss em…” Taylor said with pride. “Tay….you amaze me!” Petey laughed as they pulled into the park and stopped at the security shack and presented their ID’s. “Petey…just give me a shower and I will show you what is amazing!” Taylor said in a playful seductive voice. “I think we could all use a shower!” Jesse’s exhausted voice piped up from the back seat. “How bout I drop off you and Terri at your camper before I return the car to the office?” Petey offered as they pulled away from the guard post. “Excellent idea!” Terri nodded her head in agreement. There was a small group sitting on the deck of Terri’s and Jesse’s camper. Nell, Kim, Rita and Sara were waiting to greet them. Petey pulled up the company car and let the girls out and waved to the small group on the deck before she turned the vehicle around and headed back to the office. “You two look like hell!” Nell admonished as she hugged Jesse hard. “I am so glad to see you back where you belong!” “Trust me….it feels good to be back home!” Jesse murmured as she hugged Nell back. “Dorothy was right…there is no place like home!” Jesse laughed. Jesse walked over to where Sara was sitting and bent down to hug her. “What are you doing here?” Jesse wagged her head in concern. “I couldn’t keep her away from here unless I tied her down.” Rita smiled as she rubbed Sara’s back. “I needed to see that you were home safe!” Sara searched Jesse’s haggard face and saw that the experience had left an indelible mark on her. “I’m….ok….now that I am home…” Jesse hugged her friend hard. “But I need to take a shower and get some sleep.” She smiled at Rita and Kim and blew them both a kiss and headed inside the trailer. After the door had shut it was the group that looked expectantly toward Terri. “How is she…really?” Nell asked. “I had my arm around her and she shook all the way home, it wasn’t until we past the security check point that she finally began to stop trembling.” Terri relayed as she sank down into one of the camp chairs on the deck. “She is exhausted….I don’t think she slept at all…not that any of us did. It sure surprised the shit out of me when she walked through that door this morning. I wasn’t expecting her to be released this soon!” Terri admitted in an exhausted voice. “I think Sara might have had a little something to do with that…” Nell nodded toward their friend. “How so?” Terri asked. “I called an old friend….one that I had worked with for many years before….before the cancer….it was just a matter of giving a little perspective before he interviewed Jesse. James was quite receptive to my…hypothetical scenario that happened to coincide with a case that was coming before him in the morning. I knew James would do the right thing; he is a very good Doctor.” Sara laughed softly. “Sara…thank you…” Terri got up from the chair and hugged Sara hard. “Jesse is being railroaded…and I don’t think this is over quite yet. Whatever Knight has on her agenda….Jesse is at the center of it and this woman is going to be very pissed at the way this turned out.” Sara warned as she got up. Nell nodded toward the door and looked at her watch. “Terri…that shower has been running about 15 minutes now….I thought Jesse was the Queen of the Six-Minute Shower?” “Shit!” Terri said as she opened the door and ran to the back of the camper to the walk-in shower. Sure enough it was spitting out ice cold spray and Jesse was sitting, drawn up in the corner of the shower, soaking wet and shivering. The tears were streaming down her face. Terri turned off the water and grabbed a couple of towels and wrapped them around Jesse. “Its okay baby….you’re home…it’s okay…come on…let’s get you out of here and dried off.” Terri murmured softly as she literally lifted Jesse off the shower floor to a standing position. Jesse’s teeth were chattering from the cold and her body was like ice, her lips were almost blue. Terri pulled her toward the bed and stripped back the comforter and sheets and quickly toweled Jesse off and helped her into bed. Once Jesse was tucked in under the covers, Terri went back out to the deck. “I’ve got her to bed.” Terri sighed as she ran her hand through her hair. “Then I suggest…you join her!” Nell pushed Terri back through the door. “Kimmy and I can take care of this place until you get some rest.” Terri shut the camper door and locked it. She shucked off her shoes, stripped off her shirt and peeled off her jeans. In a flash she was in bed and holding Jesse’s shivering body next to hers. It was only a matter of moments until they were both sleeping. Terri had forgotten to close the mini-blinds in their bedroom. The Watcher... trembled in the safety of the shadows at the top of the knoll; while observing the women sleeping in the camper below….safe for now… Click On The River To Continue To Chapter 74 Labinky Park 2008 Labinky Park Enterprises 2008 Check Out River's Designs!
