Tonight was an In-Park event, mostly for the staff to get a chance to hang out, listen to some music and chill. On the
plasma screen TV the L Word would probably be playing for those that enjoyed and followed the first ever Lesbian
Series on the Showtime Channel. And there were some die-hard fans here in the Park. Those that were not die hard
fans, came and just enjoyed the company and buffet and the chance to relax after the influx of visitor's for the
weekend. There was no entertainment per se, more of an Open Mic Night as it were. It was a chance for the regulars
to show their stuff if they were so inclined. It was a simple affair, but done with just as much attention to detail as the
all out events that were planned during the camping season.

Taylor was busy at her station, preparing some wonton wrapped crab appetizers when Louise ambled over to check
out her work. There was a tray cooling from the oven behind Taylor and she smiled as she caught Louise taking a
bite of the savory tidbit.

"Now that is some good cookin' gurl" Louise praised her niece.

"Should be...it is one of your recipe's.....just tweaked a bit." Taylor laughed and hugged her Aunt.

"Soooo....you're stealin' the family secrets now?" Her Aunt arched her eyebrow at Taylor.
"Which secrets are you referring to...hmmm? The recipes ….or the fact that you and Della have been hiding out here
for the last two years and you have not told the family about it?" Taylor asked innocently.

Louise sighed and grabbed her niece's hand. "Look, I've got bread in the oven and a couple of other things do tend
to.  Once I'm done, we'll sit down and get a break and we'll chat 'bout the family".        Louise looked at the beautiful
proud young black woman across the kitchen and her heart nearly burst in the pride that this child was a part of her
life. Taylor was her heart. Pure and simple. She was well educated, well respected, and just a knock out gorgeous
woman. Taylor was proud of her black heritage and just as proud of being a lesbian. She had "come out to the family"
when she was seventeen. There had been so much discussed about this young woman amongst the family and the
extended family. There had been a many a cluck of concern and dismay that this bright young child was going to stray
down a dark and sordid path. It had bent many a knee to hit the prayer bench among the family members to guide and
lead this young one back onto the path of righteousness. But Taylor was steadfast in who she was and did not bend
or sway amid the almost daily preaching she got from the various members of the family. She would not be
disrespectful; she was never angry or bitter at all the biblical rhetoric and rationale thrown at her. She would just
merely smile that beautiful smile and say in the sweetest, most angelic voice "God made me and you have told me all
my life God does not make mistakes, if you have a problem with what He created, I think you should take it up with
Him." and off she'd go. Louise had admired her spunk and courage even at that young age...............

Louise's situation had been much different. She had always known, had always felt that she was a lesbian, but she
had followed the conventional path that had been laid out before her. She married young, to angry abusive alcoholic
who beat her down every time he had a chance.

The family knew, but it was acceptable at that time that a woman be 'controlled' by her husband. The marriage ended
after two years of abuse, of being beaten to a pulp, of being raped against her will. It ended, when in a drunken rage
her husband had tried to grab her from behind and choke her, but Louise slipped out of his grasp and ran down the
two flights of steps practically half naked from their meager apartment and pounded on the door of Della's apartment.

Della opened her door to the bruised and bleeding young woman with tears streaming down her face. Without a
moment's hesitation Della pulled Louise in from the hallway and locked the door. They could still hear Leroy's
bellowing voice vowing to get Louise above them. Della went to the bathroom and pulled a robe from behind the
door and helped Louise cover herself. She walked Louise to the couch and sat her down and went back to the
bathroom to fetch some towels and antiseptics to clean her wounds.

"You poor baby, " she murmured as she gently wiped away the tears and blood from Louise's battered face. All the
while, the noise of Leroy stumbling drunkenly above could be heard by both women. Leroy was pounding on the
doors of all the apartments screaming for Louise. Every time his fist hit a door Louise flinched. Della put both her
strong hands on either side of Louise's face and turned her head gently so that she could see directly into those
hurt and fearful eyes. "You are safe here! He will not come through that door. He will not." Della promised. Gently
Della led Louise to a very small bedroom, hardly bigger than a closet. It had a single bed.

"You rest here for a bit." Della smiled as she closed the door.

Della stood and waited for Leroy to beat on her door. She could hear him getting closer and closer. Her heart was
racing; she could feel it pounding in her ears and throat. She stood there and waited for him to put his fist on her
door. She waited......with a loaded 45 in her hand.

The fist hit the door and the sound boomed through Della's apartment. Della slipped her gun in the huge pocket of
her loose fitting jacket. She kept one hand on the handle as she looked through the peep hole. She saw the drunken
man sway in the hallway. Sweating and cursing, he kept pushing against the door. “Louise....git your ass out here
gurl....Lou...now...if I get my hands on you...."

"Man you need to back on out of here!” Della said her most authoritative and commanding voice.

“Bitch....you had betta open up dis here door and stay da fuck outta my way" Leroy howled as he pushed against the
cheap door frame. Della could hear the wood giving under the weight and punishment that the drunk was
administering.

"MAN! I AM TELLING YOU GET AWAY FROM MY DOOR! “Della yelled as the flimsy latch finally gave away and Leroy
stumbled inside the tiny living room.

"FUCK YOU! YOU FREAKIN CUNT!" Leroy bellowed and he drunkenly took a step closer and Della whipped out the
Colt 45 and aimed it dead between his eyes.

Leroy's hands went up. "Whoa.....whoa....you crazy bitch?" Della pulled the hammer back until it made that distinctive
click. Leroy's eyes grew wide as he looked down the barrel of the gun into the eyes of the woman that held it. There
was no fear in her eyes. No intimidation. She was ready to do whatever was necessary. Leroy slowly shuffled his way
back through the door.

Della stood her ground. "Man, I am only going to say this one time. You will never cross my doorstep again! Do you
understand me? Now close my door and get the hell away from me!" Della ordered.

Louise watched the scene unfold through the crack in the door of the bedroom. She saw how calmly Della stood
before the bully. Leroy stood about six foot six, black as ebony, with muscles of iron that had been formed from years
of working along the Louisiana waterways. Della stood a mere 5 foot 5 at most, but she stood before the drunken
giant and held her ground with a Colt 45 to back her up. Even Louise could tell that if Leroy stepped one step closer,
the hammer on that gun would come down. Louise’s batter lips slowly smiled when she saw the big man slowly back
out of apartment.... and out of her life…….

Louise shook her head at the flood of memories and put her mind back on the business at hand.

"Taylor, the coffee is ready gal.....now bout the family!" Louise began as she pursed her lips and kissed the air.
“You know I love your Mama, she is my sister, but Lordy that woman can talk the bark off a tree. And I guess that is a
good thing because her latest husband....who is that little dude.....Hubert...... couldn't get a word in edgewise iffen he
used a crowbar. So here we are......you and me and Della.....the three lesbians in the family. You my dear....are the
princess and we are more like the ugly stepsisters in our family" Louise chuckled good-naturedly.

"That don't mean that Della and I are not accepted....we are just....not discussed....so to speak…if you get my drift. I
am sure that the family is praying that you will out-grow your fascination with women. I am pretty sure that they are
waiting with bated breath for you to bring some young hot stud home for them to feast their eyes on. At least that is
what I hear when I talk to your Mama......she has accepted your lifestyle....she just keeps hoping that it will change in
time. Now with the advent of cell phones....the
family can get in touch with us at any time.....they just don't know
where we are all the time and after spending most of our lives trying not to make waves when we are around the
family.....coming here is like a vacation even though we are working. And now that we are both semi-retired it fits our
lifestyle to a T. We get here about three week before the park opens....get settled in....hire the summer help and just
enjoy being with women like ourselves.....we kind of created a community.....and that is why your Aunt Della and I
have kept it a secret.....why spoil a good thing with bad family drama...." she raised her cup and clinked it against
Taylor's mug.

"Well......you know Mama is going to ask me about you two....and she has already hinted that she wants to come up to
the Park to have a
Family Reunion....." Taylor's eyes were sparkling with mischief!

"Della!" Louise turned to her partner who was spreading some freshly cut fruit into a sculptured watermelon basket.
Della looked over to the two of them sitting across the kitchen and smiled. " Honey.......ummmm......you better add a
little more rum to that basket.... then pour yourself a shot......"

Della laughed as she added a copious amount of Rum to the fruit and then poured herself a little bit in a coffee cup.
She walked over and draped a loving arm across Louise's shoulders and asked as she raised her cup and took a sip.
"What are we celebrating?" Louise rolled her eyes toward the heavens as her body shuddered, "Looks like we are
going be having a Family Reunion at Labinky Park!"

Della choked at the statement and as the rum as it hit the back of her throat. Louise jumped up and started thumping
on Della's back and trying to get her to put her arms above her head to keep from choking. "Della.....come on baby.....
it'll be alright......we can always drown em in the river...!" All the while Taylor was literally holding her sides and
rocking with laughter at the antics of her beloved Aunties.
