After Terri dropped her off at their trailer, Jesse went inside and grabbed the key to
the purple golf cart. She knew that Nell was going to be in safe hands with Terri and
though she was just about done in, she headed the cart down to Sara's lot. Along the
way she waved at the sister's that were packing up to go home, and others who were
just lounging around and enjoying the gorgeous Sunday. The air was refreshingly
warm after the coolness of the spring night.

Jesse smiled as she drove down the winding black topped lane. She pulled into Sara's
lot at the top and walked down the stoned path to the deck. Sara was out under the
awning in a sling chair with a big floppy hat and a bright rainbow tie-dyed hoodie
zipped up close to her neck. She had watched as Jesse walked down the lot and had
a big smile on her face.

“Mornin’ sleepy head." Jesse chided good-naturedly.

“Top of the mornin' to yourself there Jesse girl." Sara responded in kind with an Irish
lilt to her voice. “Where is that there Terri?" Sara looked back up at the empty cart.

“Terri and Nell are….. taking care of some personal business." Jesse smiled broadly

“Let me guess.....ummm Lindy Jones?" Sara smiled knowingly.

“I guess her rep is well deserved then huh" Jesse laughed.

“Only in her own mind." Sara sighed.

“So where is the Rita woman?" Jesse looked expectantly at the camper door.

" Well.....hmmm....she got up this morning hell-bent on making pancakes....but left the
mix at home....so then she decided she would make scrambled eggs and bacon.......
but no bacon came with us this trip and somehow the eggs had gotten broken on the
way over. She was mumbling something about laying the shop vac on top of the
grocery bag." Sara chuckled sympathetically. “I told her to go to the lodge and get
herself some of Louise's fantastic brunch and to bring me back some toast." Sara
waved her hand toward the Lodge.

Jesse sat down across from Sara and reached out for her friend's frail hand. Jesse
remembered how strong that Sara's hand had been when it held a hammer and was
pounding the nails into the boards of the very deck that they sat on. To see the
strength drained from such a strong and capable hand and to feel the coolness of it
was a hard reality to comprehend. Jesse looked up into Sara's eyes and realized that
what she had been thinking was written on her face. Sara smiled a weary smile.

"I should have told you when I found out." Sara confessed. “Rita kept nagging me
about it. But I couldn't. I needed time to adjust. To think. To plan. I didn't mean to shut
you out. It was just easier to deal with it all on my terms."

“I could have and would have helped," Jesse spoke with choked emotion.

“Jesse....." Sara said lovingly. “I know you would have sweetie, but you could not have
changed a thing. No matter how hard you wanted to or how hard you tried. The truth
would have remained the same. I am dying."

It was then that Rita parked her golf cart beside Jesse's and brought down a bag of
food from the Lodge. She got to the deck and then remembered that she forgot the
coffee and went back to the cart and grabbed the two styro containers from the cup
holders and held them triumphantly in her hands as she made her way back to Sarah
and Jesse.

“I didn't spill a drop!" Rita hooped.

“Now that's my gurl!" Sara beamed proudly.

“Louise sent down some tea for you, it's some herbal concoction she made. There's a
smoothie for you also." Rita dug into the bag and brought out each goodie and set it
on the small table beside Sara. “And she gave me strict instructions that you at least
drink half the smoothie and save the rest for later." Rita shook her finger at Sara.

Sara winked at Jesse and looked up at Rita. “What else is in the bag?"

"Well.....umm some pancakes.....eggs....bacon....sausage....hashbrowns....ummm
ham....ummm....oh yeah...I got some melon and banana's!" Rita looked at Sara's grin.
“Well...." she said sheepishly..."the banana's and melon are healthy."

“Go ahead and dig in..." Sara smiled as she opened the smoothie container and
sipped it.

“So what am I interrupting?" Rita asked as she began stuffing her mouth with bacon
and eggs.

“Not much really." Sara sighed.

“Are you guys going home today?" Jesse asked. “Taking the lead from Sara and
changing the subject.

“Nope! I got a four day weekend.  We don't have to head back to the City until
Tuesday evening." Rita said between bites.

“You aren't going to stay here while Rita goes to work?" Jesse asked Sara.

Sara looked long and hard toward the river that could just barely be seen from their
deck. Jesse could she that she was struggling now. "I want to. But for now, I am going
back with Rita. This year we will come over on Thursday evening and that way I will
only be here one day by myself while Rita's working."

“You won't be by yourself." Jesse laughed. “Do you really think you are gonna keep
our Motley crew from checking in on you? You'll be lucky if you have a full minute to
yourself."

“What are you and Terri gonna do for the rest of the day?" Rita asked as she
munched on a piece of toast.

“Rita....Baby…...what does one do on Sunday's at Labinky Park?" Sara asked as she
sipped the herbal tea.

“Throw up.....sober up.....get laid......and......." Rita recited.

“Watch the Lesbians at the Lodge." they all three said in unison.
