Della was taking a well deserved break after the morning rush. The Lodge was quiet; a few guests were still enjoying a late and leisurely breakfast. The waitresses were busy clearing tables, filling salt and pepper shakers, filling the napkin dispensers and chatting while they worked. Della nodded as they worked under her watchful eye. Louise brought her a steaming cup of coffee and put her arm around her shoulders and hugged her tight. “Hmmm….thanks baby,” Della murmured as she took a sip from the cup. “Fresh pot….I got some blueberry muffins ready to pop outta the oven in ten minutes.” Louise smiled coyly. “Gurl….you know how to make my morning….” Della laughed softly. “Well….you made my morning….extremely nice…” Louise purred. Della put her arm around Louise and pulled her close and whispered in her ear. “My pleasure baby….always my pleasure….” It was then that the radio station that was playing in the Lodge dining area came on with the song “Blueberry Hill” by Fats Domino. Della grabbed Louise by the hand and they started to dance to the oldie to the surprise of all the waitresses. They were in perfect unison of each other. Their timing and moves were mirror images as they put on a show for their morning crew. The song then went into another oldie and Elvis was belting out “Jailhouse Rock” and the two women boogied their bodies to the beat with the clapping of the waitresses and late morning diner’s egging them on. They were great together; each one moving with a knowing anticipation of the other’s next step. When the song was done, everyone in the Lodge stood and clapped at the two breathless women as they held hands and bowed to their fans. “We still got the moves….gurl….” Louise laughed breathlessly. “Yes….baby…we still can groove together……” Della agreed as they headed back to the table where they had left their coffee. “Now that brought back memories…” Louise chuckled as they got comfortable again to enjoy their morning break together. “Yes it did baby…” Della smiled as the memories came back. “That old apartment….and that little single bed…..” Louise chortled as she reminisced. “Hmmmm as I recall…that little bed….rocked a lot.” Della arched her eyebrows and beamed a big smile. Louise put her hand on Della’s face and gently caressed it. Every time they touched, it was with such love, such tenderness; it was evident that they still had passion for each other. It shined out to everyone around them. Della grabbed Louise’s hand and kissed it gently. This time in their lives had been a long time in coming; where they could freely express their love in a safe place. After decades of hiding their love in public, this was a little slice of heaven for them. It was a testament for the young women that surrounded them on a daily basis; to see an enduring love…..one that had stood the test of time and the limits that society had imposed on it. It was rare in the lesbian world…..to see two women….together after so many years and still so clearly in love. And there was no doubt about it…..after almost thirty-nine years together Della and Louise were still in love with each other. “As I recalled…..that little bed could walk across the room…..” Louise laughed softly at the memories. “Oh….my goodness…..so many apartments and so many beds……” Della groaned as she remembered all the moving days. “Now we got us a swanked out camper with a bed that don’t move…..” Louise laughed as she took another sip from her cup. “Well …..” Della smiled her beautiful smile “We just make the camper rock now….” “Yes….baby…..we sure do….” Louise clinked her cup to her partner’s and winked.
