Rachel was busy on her laptop when Dory ventured from their bedroom. They had
spent the night in bed, but not in the casual entangled way that they normally slept. It
was like they had each staked out their particular territory and neither one was
tempted to cross across the great divide of the queen sized bed. There had been
tense times in their relationship, times when they didn’t see eye to eye, or had a bit of
a tiff. But this was different. The sands were shifting and whatever “magic” that
seemed to make them work together... had lost its steam. Dory could feel it! And it
was very disconcerting to her and her sense of security.

Just as Dory was thinking about making a move toward Rachel there was a soft knock
at their door. Dory ducked back into the bedroom as she watched Rachel close the
laptop and go open the camper door. And who should be standing there…..but Petey!

“Good morning!” Petey flashed that rakish smile of hers.

“Hello….” Rachel smiled at her guest. “I was just thinking about you. I didn’t get a
chance to tell you how much I enjoyed your poetry reading last night!” Rachel said as
she stepped out of the camper and joined Petey outside.

“Why….thank you….but my friend Kerri, she deserves the credit…her words were
beautiful…..and inspiring…” Petey blushed graciously. “Look I have the morning off
and I was wondering if I could invite you both to go for a pontoon ride!”

“Well….I am up for it….I don’t know if Dory will be though….I think I heard her stirring
in the bedroom a minute ago….” Rachel said almost reluctantly.

It was as if on cue... that Dory had stepped out of the bedroom, fully dressed and
ready for action. Even Rachel did a double take, because Dory was never one to bust
her ass to get up and get going. Here she was, dressed, bright eyed and ready for
business. Dory flashed an eager smile to Rachel and nodded her head as if to say,
I'm ready for anything!

“Well Dory….would you like to go out on the boat with us?” Rachel asked fully
expecting to get a smart ass reply. To her surprise Dory looked to be nothing but
willing to go out on this excursion.

“If that is what you want to do….” Dory smiled disarmingly to them both.

“Good….my friend Tay is down at the dock and warming up the boat for us right
now…you might want to grab a sweatshirt or jacket….it gets a little chilly on the river
this time of the year.” Petey warned both the women as she turned and headed
toward the Mule.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Dory grabbed a warm Hoodie for herself and Rachel
and headed out the door. Rachel turned and locked the camper door and took the
garment that Dory handed to her, she tried not to look skeptical at this sudden
turnabout. Her guard was up and she was wary. But on close inspection of Dory she
did not see or sense any guile in her at the moment. Dory seemed to be interested in
this little venue. That was not only surprising to Rachel but intriguing as well.

Petey revved up the motor of the Mule and soon they were headed off toward the
dock. Rachel had seen pontoon boats, but she had never been on one before. It
looked like a fancy floating dock! The boat was next to a floating walkway and Petey
led the way toward the stem of the boat and it was just a little step up through a
swinging gate and they were safely aboard. Taylor was at the boat wheel with the twin
out-board motors gently purring. She seem pretty comfortable at the controls and
waited until Petey shut and secured the gate and give the signal to head out into the
river’s current.

Taylor gave the throttle just a enough nudge to pull them away from the dock walkway
and before long they were in the middle of the wide expanse of the river. There was a
rock bluff that was directly in front of them and Taylor headed toward the bluff then
expertly veered the boat in a gentle left turn that pointed them up river.

The big boat seem to float on top of the water, it really didn’t feel like you were on a
boat at all, it felt like you were gliding up river. The motors were not ear splitting loud,
they sounded like huge cats purring and you could actually hear the people laughing
and calling to each other on the shore.

Even Dory was impressed and was looking at everything and absorbing all the
sensations of the moving boat, the breeze, the ever changing vistas on either side of
them. She had her nose crinkled up as she squinted to try to look everywhere at once.
Rachel began to relax a bit as she realized that Dory was in this just for the experience
of the moment.

The cushioned seats were wide and comfortable and Rachel soon found herself
absorbed in watching the water and the shoreline. The boat was moving so slowly that
you could see the fish coming to the surface as they feasted on the rise of the early
morning hatching of the mayflies. Rachel gasped as she watched a big bass surge
from the edge of the river and leap in the morning sun as it attempted to engulf a low
flying dragonfly. It was like seeing everything in slow motion. The powerful fish’s jaws
gaped open and barely missed the astute insect as it darted safely out of harm’s way.
The big fish splashed down empty-mouthed and darted back toward the shadows of
the riverbank and waited for its next hapless victim.

“I should have remembered to tell you to bring a camera….” Petey smiled as watched
Rachel’s reaction to the scene before her.

“It was definitely one of those moments….” Rachel mused as she nodded slowly and
relaxed even more into the comfortable seat. “This is a bit of heaven…the water….the
sun…..it feels wonderful!”

“I thought you would enjoy it….but I have to admit…it was Tay’s idea.” Petey smiled
to her friend who nodded back to her as she safely piloted the boat through the water’
s current.

“Are you two together?” Dory asked innocently.
“Well….we
are best friends….but without benefits….” Taylor laughed at the question.
“Though it is not without me trying…..”

Petey blushed at the question and at Taylor’s lighthearted response. Dory was
amused and intrigued by the situation that these two beautiful women presented. Even
Dory had to admit….that they both were attractive….each in their own right. Taylor
was exotic and wonderfully seductive in her every move and Petey….if there was
anyway to describe Petey’s quality….it was like she was the
Brad Pitt of the Lesbian
world. Rock solid…beautiful skin….strong ….solid jaw line….her shoulders were
broad; but not out of proportion to the rest of her…she had that chiseled from granite
look…very defined, smooth and just absolutely….
fuckable.

Dory ducked her head and looked away and for the first time ever in any relationship
that she had encountered in her young lesbian life…she felt a little sad….and a little
afraid….and a little daunted by the sheer experience that these women exuded. It was
a tangible essence….and she felt it….and even with all her swagger and puffed up
pride she realized that these women….all of them….were wonderful…..even….Petey!
