Rachel wiped the sweat from her forehead to keep it from running down in her eyes. The boxes from the truck were piled beside the trailer and were now ready to be unpacked and put away. Dory was still inside the camper, sulking no doubt from the mornings escapade. Petey and Terri had walked down to the end of the lot about an hour ago. Every now and then she heard their voices talking and laughing. It took all her resolve to continue her task at hand and take a break and walk down to the dock and join them. The camper door opened up and Dory finally emerged now that the work was nearly done. Typical. She walked over to the nearest box and nudged it with the toe of her Nike. "Don't think it is going to unpack itself if you kick it" Rachel said dryly. "What do you want me to do?" Dory asked without her usual flippancy. Rachel sighed and pointed to the box closest to the camper "Start with that one. I think that it is mostly the pantry stuff. If you could get that organized it would be a help.” Without a word of protest, Dory grabbed the box and heaved it into the camper. She pushed it farther inside and then climbed up the steps and shut the door behind her. Rachel sort of smiled to herself and shook her head. Wonders never cease, Dory actually doing something without putting up a fight. She could get used to this. But the little voice that resides deep inside let her know that this was merely a lull in the storm. Terri put down her clipboard and inspected the mooring line to the dock. The steel cable looked to be in good shape, the lag eyelets here holding well but the anchoring pillar had worked loose. She fished a small buck knife from a cargo pocket on her shorts and with a quick flip of her wrist the knife opened she used it to test the wooden pillar for rot. The knife sunk down into the wood with very little effort. Terri checked the other mooring pillar in the same way. This time the knife could only nick the outer surface of the heavy creosoted log. "Looks like this one will pass inspection, but the other one is gonna have to be replaced." Terri said as she made some notations on the clipboard. "If we continue to use this kind of material, we are always going to have rot and decay eventually." Petey pointed out. Terri nodded in agreement. "I was thinking the same thing. Do you have something else in mind?” "How bout we use some eight or 10 inch PVC pipe; cap the bottom of the pipe and fill it with cement then cap the top and sink it in the same way that these original old telephone pole logs were buried." Petey suggested. "Not bad, Girl. Effective. Cheap. I like it. I like it very muchly." Terri complimented. "Ahh.....I bet you say that to all the hired help." Petey punched her boss’s arm lightly in jest. “Nope….just to blond’s that stand about a foot taller than me and can kick box my ass across this here river.….” Terri shot back.
